Deception

Experimental Fashion

‘Deception’ Teaser

I am fascinated by the acts of blending in, deception and visual illusion. I love the feeling of wonder as I unravel how something works, looks or is created. I worked to reflect that feeling in these designs.

I created a classical flexible silhouette as the base for a futuristic statement-making design, then created the masks using the papier-mache technique on chiffon fabric. The pattern was sewn from the sides only, and folded inside under the arms.

Process & Sketches

The design doubles as a dress and a jacket, which allows it to be worn by anyone. Its structure also enables it to fit a wide range of people. Imagine the juxtaposition of the faces of the wearers with the faces on the design itself, if any.

Faces of ‘Deception’

Deception is a material experimentation fashion project inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s movie; The Shining, as part of the fashion semester at Birzeit University.

As part of Kubrick's research, he used "Subliminal Seduction" and "The Uses of Enchantment: The Meaning and Importance of Fairy Tales" books in constructing his movie. He experimented with hidden messages while relying on the quick acceptance of humans to visual contents, which interested me.
